<   >

An Amnesty International Local Group 361 Past Event with co-sponsors Mayan Hands, The Center for Citizenship, Race, and Ethnicity Studies (CREST) College of St. Rose, and the Labor Council for Latin American Advancement. Our co-sponsors’ generosity is much appreciated.

As our pictures show, our co-sponsors graced the event with
Mayan goods   ♦ Latin meal (no pictures, but a link to recipes)   ♦ Latin music,   ♦  Guatemalan Dancing   ♦  2 refugee speakers
All enhanced our day, the Keynote speaker’s message and the fun!
See the Photo Album below.

A look at some of the Mayan Hands’ goods that were sold. Check out their online store at their website.

After the buffet dinner, Carmen Contento’s three person group demonstrated Mayan dancing. Two of the speakers, Calel Genaro and Lucio Reynoza, were among the volunteers who joined the dancing.

The dance group dressed the volunteer dancers in native costume. One of our speakers, Genaro, was already wearing an example of his countrymen’s clothing and only donned a head covering. Another of our speakers, Lucio, led the line.

The dance group included the gentleman wearing ceremonial robes, an impressive part of his collection of native Mayan costumes. The two women dancers were so successful at dressing another woman, a volunteer, that we can only identify the presenters> by their barefeet!

The live Latin music was played by the Walter Ramos’ group.

The food was delicious. The dessert -- with cinnamon flavors -- was undoubtedlly one of the best in the Capitol District Region. Many returned to the buffet line for another helping.

Sorry, we did not get the recipes of the night -- but, we found other Guatemalan recipes online, at Whats 4 Eats We hope they are as good as those we tasted!
